Yes, The Turtles Have Kat’s iPhone

Replacing a lost iPhone in Mexico is tougher than I imagined. In our case, we know exactly where it is – it’s at the bottom of the turtle pond at the Serpentario in La Paz, Mexico.

Kat couldn’t be the first gringa to permanently loan her phone to some turtles, right?

Turns out there is absolutely no easy way to replace an iPhone (with a US phone number) in Mexico. If you are in Mexico City, you can try going to one of the official Apple Stores (I think both are in Polanco.) They may be able to help. But it’s not a sure thing.

Your other option: go back to the US to buy a phone – and activate it north of the border. That’s the option I chose. This video documents the trials and tribulations of my 32 hour journey to replace a phone.

You do have the option of purchasing a cheap phone in Mexico – maybe a pre-paid one – and forwarding your calls to that phone. The folks at the number below can help set up the forwarding.

If you don’t believe me, or you need help with your ATT phone while overseas, I highly recommend calling this number: +1.314.925.6925.
