What happens if you have a medical emergency while living in Mexico? You may need to be sent back to the states or Canada for treatment. And being evacuated by air is really expensive. In this video I talk to Shelley Burleson from SkyMed about medical evacuation from Mexico.
You can learn more and enroll in SkyMed here: https://visitwebsite.co/SkyMed

Or meet Shelley in person at our Sunday Happy Hour on Super Bowl Sunday. We’ll be meeting earlier than usual: 1pm at Mucho Gusto in downtown La Paz. I hope to see you there!
SkyMed is just one of many options for getting you back to the US if the worst happens in Mexico. Of course, Shelley is an expert in SkyMed benefits, but talks about her competition too. And Shelley shares some examples of people who have been medevaced from Mexico.
Just a few things to think about:
1) Do you have insurance in the US (like Medicare) that will cover your expenses when you get stateside?
2) How much aversion to risk do you have?
3) What is the cost of a plan and how will that cost change over the years you’ll be living overseas?
Things to consider when choosing a plan:
1) Medical necessity? If a local doctor, can treat you, can you choose to go home.
2) Who decides where you’ll get treatment? You or the plan?
3) What geographic restrictions are?
4) Do benefits include a return trip back to Mexico after treatment, sending your dog home, bringing a friend to Mexico if you choose to stay in Mexico for treatment, sending your vehicle north.
