When David moved to Mexico, he kept his condo in Colorado just in case he decided Mexico wasn’t for him. But then he fell in love with Larissa in Mexico City.
My wife Kat is very keen on having an exit plan – a way to return to the United States if Mexico doesn’t work out. As part-time residents, it’s not as much of a concern, because we are moving back and forth every six months. But for full time residents, you must make a decision about selling your property in the US – or keeping it and renting it out. Property values in the US tend to rise more consistently than in Mexico, so it can be hard to return if you’ve exited the housing market.
