Don’t forget to pay Christmas Bonuses! IT’S THE LAW IN MEXICO

Aguinaldos are mandatory Christmas bonuses that you need to pay any domestic helpers (or employees) before December 20th of each year. Mexicans depend on this additional payment at the end of the year and it’s required by law in many situations.

Then there are also tips that are common and expected at the end of the year which are not required by law. Labor in Mexico is very inexpensive compared to the US or Canada, but you need to remember to pay the extra bit in December.

Here is a calculator that you can use: https://finerio.mx/calculo-de-aguinaldo

These must be paid by December 20th and be a minimum 15 days pay (for full-time workers who’ve worked a full year.)

If you can think of other helpers that gringos typically work with who deserve a tip or aguinaldo, please share those in the comments.
