In Chapala this morning, I went in search of the traditional drink of Jalisco: Pajarete. It’s usually served on a farm so you can get the cow’s milk straight from the cow. The alcohol is moonshine from cane sugar.
I was lucky to find a place that offered coffee or chocolate – I chose chocolate. It was really, really good. It’s like warm hot chocolate with just a bit of an alcoholic kick. And supposedly (according to some website) the alcohol kills the potential listeria.
Good news is that I’m posting this a couple hours later and I haven’t died. Unlike some other folks. As I was editing, I found a news article that said that 21 people had died drinking pajarete. I’m glad I didn’t see that one in advance.
