Stanford University released a list of words that are potentially harmful and some people from the United States had hissy fits. Elon Musk being one of them.
“American” was on the list because it’s often used to describe people from the United States, and forgets that there are another 40-something countries on the two American continents.
Because this YouTube channel focuses on moving to Mexico from one of the other two North American countries, I thought it important to talk about the term “American.”

I don’t care if you continue to use the word American to describe people from the US. But I think it’s important to understand that this can be hurtful to people from our host country.
I share a few other words that are hurtful in this video to help you understand what hurtful language is and how to avoid it. You might consider me “woke” because I choose to use language that is not hurtful. What is the opposite of “woke”? Asleep?
Not everyone is offended by this language, but I’d rather err on the side of politeness and it’s an easy-enough change to make.
